For the 2011 ski trip, I have decided to go to Italy for some more good skiing, good food and of course, good wine.
This time the ski trip is to Sansicario in the Italian Alps, departing from Dublin on Sunday 16th January 2011 and returning
to Dublin on Sunday 23rd January 2011. The flight to Turin takes 2 hours and the bus transfer from Turin to Sansicario takes
2 hours.
Sansicario is a little known pearl of the Italian Milky Way. Situated at the centre of a huge natural bowl between the larger
resorts of Sauze d'Oulx and Sestriere, Sansicario was home to a number of events at the 2006 Winter Olympics, including the
women's downhill. The Milky Way ski area offers 400km of linked pistes.
The group will be travelling with Crystal Holidays and staying in the 3-star Hotel Majestic. The Hotel Majestic provides
spectacular views of the surrounding mountains and is ideally placed for making the most of the Milky Way ski area. This
modern 144-bedroom hotel offers a high standard of accommodation and boasts an excellent range of facilities for guests to
make the most of after a hard day on the slopes, an excellent choice of accommodation.
The hotel is located about 3km from the lifts. There is a ski bus stop outside hotel with a frequent bus service to the resort
centre. The lifts are a 30-minute walk from the hotel or a 5-minute walk from ski bus drop off point.
Hotel facilities include: Bar, Lounge, Indoor pool (swimming caps to be worn), Fitness room, Whirlpool, Sauna and massage
(local charge), Lift. All bedrooms have private bath or shower, WC, satellite TV, hairdryer, fridge, balcony or terrace.
There is a buffet breakfast and 4-course evening meals with a choice of menu, salad and dessert buffets.
The cost for the trip is 630. This price includes flights from/to Dublin, bus transfers to/from Sansicario, half-board
accommodation sharing a twin room. There are no single rooms available.
The price excludes insurance, as most of the group purchase their own annual multi-trip
insurance policy. If you would like to come on the
holiday, but you dont want to snowboard or ski, you just have to pay the basic hotel and flights package cost of 630.
The 630 price does not include the following ski pack items, which can be booked as extras (2010 prices given as guide):
- First time skiing - 282 - includes 6 days ski and boot hire, beginners lift pass and 5 days tuition
- Lift pass - area 199
- Ski/sticks - 6 days 55 (through www.AlpinResorts.com)
- Boots - 6 days 20 (through www.AlpinResorts.com)
- Helmet - 6 days 17
- Ski school - 5 days 147
- Insurance - up to 9 days 49
Snowboarding equipment and snowboard lessons may be booked at similar prices instead of skis if you wish.
For trip update, please check this webpage. If you have any questions about the holiday, please send me an e-mail
(info@OutSkiing.org).
I have made a provisional booking with Crystal Holidays, which they will hold until the start of May.
So if you are interested in going on the trip, you need to pay the booking deposit by Friday 7 May 2010.
If you are interested in joining this group holiday (and you can bring a friend or two if you wish),
please send an e-mail. The booking deposit for this holiday is 200
(the balance of the holiday price is due to be paid by mid-November 2010).
You can pay your 200 deposit by cheque or by credit card. The deposit is non-refundable.
Hopefully you will join me to help make a great skiing holiday in 2011,
Frank.
